Machine Bass is a project working with double bass, microphones and speakers.

As with all acoustic instruments, the double bass is designed for sound to travel along specific pathways, from instigation to projection.
In the example of the double bass, this route is through the bridge and into the sounding chamber, then around and out of the chamber via various internal devices.
It is effective, but limited. A small amount of the sonic potentials of the instrument travel this route.

Microphones pick up sound, speakers (re)produce it.
Using this technology within the physical confines of the instrument, one can take a sound and relocate it.
With the feedback it creates, oblique, electric lines can be drawn through the geography of the instrument.

The ‘MB-S’ releases are recorded direct to magnetic tape. The sound is digitised for archiving, but the work is distributed on the original recording media.
The tape sleeves are rendered from the digitised sound of each segment, but they otherwise remain unmarked .
